In 1994 the asthma referral specialist literature contained statements such as “…asthma begins in childhood.” The experience of primary care physicians was quite different but had never been published. This practice-based study measured the prevalence of adult-onset asthma and, consistent with population-based epidemiological studies, found that adult-onset asthma was as common as childhood-onset asthma.
